About
One of the great things about New York is that you don’t have to go far to get a good burger. We had just left a tasting of South American wines at Camaje and – fortified with nine glasses of wine (each!) – we decided that it was imperative that we eat soon. We were still pleasantly buzzed and plenty hungry when we stopped at Cafe Loup for a burger and a bit more wine. By the time we had finished eating, we had decided to share our expertise — and our experience — with others who share our tastes.
You’ll find a consistency among the kinds of establishments that we like to visit – neighborhood favorites more than destination restaurants. Usually pretty easy to get into, and comfortable once you’re there. This is especially important if you’ve consumed a few bottles of wine before hand. We’re sure that we’ll visit some high-end places as the site grows, but that will only be to point out the obvious: there is no burger worth twenty-seven dollars. But we’ll be delighted if we find out that we’re wrong on that assumption.
You will notice we don’t rate service. We’ve both worked in restaurants, and appreciate what it takes to provide a nice dining atmosphere. In order for us to mention service, something extraordinary has to happen (like, say, a Harvey Fierstein-esque waiter violently attacking the hostess in front of the entire restaurant, which we’ve only seen once).
